Craft - Pencil Flower Arrangement

I created this Pencil Flower Bouquet for my sister's desk. I wanted her to have a cute floral arrangement to bring in a bit of spring color. I also wanted it to be functional, so I taped the stems of the flowers to the pencils using washi tape. This part was inspired by a flower pen I saw in a doctor's office. I'll show you how to do it...

Here's what you need :
Washi tape (I used different colors than green, because I wanted the bouquet to be colorful)
Glass chips
Vase
Pencils (or pens, markers, or any other utensil you want to use)
Faux Flowers with stems
Scissors

I had to detach my flowers from each other, so I used scissors to cut through the green plastic until I exposed the wire. Then, I bent the wire back and forth to break it. ****BE CAREFUL: When the stem is broken, the inside wire will be exposed and it's extremely sharp. I pierced my skin twice...****

Make sure you cut the stem so that it's shorter than your pencils.

If your flowers came on a bouquet already, observe it. After detaching all your stems with flowers, if it still has some green leaves on it, keep it; you can use it when arranging your new bouquet later.

You'll need to remove any leaves that are lined along the stems of your flowers, because you won't be able to seamlessly tape the pencil onto the stem if the leaves are still attached.

As you can see below, I was able to keep the leaves on these white flowers, because they won't be in the way when I start taping.

Now to start taping: Make sure to start about 1/8" - 1/4" from below the flower in case you want to bend the stem with arranging your flowers later.

Wrap at least twice at the starting end, then tape down diagonally until you get to the desired length. I stopped about 1/2" - 1/4" from the bottom of each pencil to allow for sharpening. It's so easy to pull back the washi tape later, so it's okay to go to the end of the pencil if you'd like!

When you get to the end of where you want your tape to end, wrap at least twice to make sure the tape's grip is secure.

Put your glass chips in your vase and start arranging your bouquet. Remember to also use the piece of the bouquet that was left off; it may have leaves on it that could make your new bouquet look better.

  3. OOO this is super cute! I love how you used washi tape for it. I really need to try that stuff out. I also need to try out some flower pens (or pencils!), so it would work out perfectly to do those together :)

I'm so excited to get to know you and your blog...especially since I'll be sending you a Cara box this month!!! Yay!

    1. Hey Brie!!!
Thanks for stopping by! Sorry for the delayed response! I'm really excited about the swap also, I'll shoot you an email!

You definitely need to try out the washi tape. Just a couple a months ago, I didn't know what it was and now I'm addicted. It's easy to remove and doesn't leave a residue, and it's strong enough for many projects. The fact that it comes in a bunch of colors and patterns is what sold me on it!
